Laser Tv To Compete Against HDTV
It seems like laser TV will be the next generation of, you guessed, TVs. Frank DeMartin, GM of Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America, said that laser TV provides the best quality because “laser has the ability to hit color points that no other technology can.” We suppose that he is referring to HD technology, the main rival of laser TV. He also said the price will be competitive with those of flat panels. Frank is confident that laser TV will hit he market immediately. We are not sure what to say about this because we don’t have enough technical informations about this technology but he hope to give you details as soon as we can get our hands on them.

HDTV is a standard that can be implemented by any display technology that meets its requirements. I’ve seen liquid crystal, plasma and micromirror array (DLP, a Texas Instruments trademark) sets for sale. Microlaser array chips are just one more way to do HDTV.
Laser doesn’t compete with HD. It’s just another technolgy to display HD. It competes against plasma, LCD, DLP etc. Though it promises to produce a wider spectrum of colors than the others, its principle downside is that it is a projection technology. The sets will be well over a foot deep – at least initially.
I don’t think you quite understand what HD is.
HD refers to a specification, or rather a couple specifications, for image quality, shape, size, and resolution.
What it would be able to compete with (Laser that is), is LED, OLED, DLP, and Plasma. HD is the quality, Laser, LED, Plasma, etc are the technologies.
